About the Canon EOS 6D and 6D MkII
In early 2013, Canon added another new class to its EOS line of DSLR’s – the 6D. Offering photographers an entry level full-frame SLR, the 6D offered many of the features professional photographers rely on, but at an affordable price for serious photographers and semi-pros.
Featuring a 20.2 megapixel CMOS Sensor powered by DIGIC 5+ image processors, the 6D offers the creative and technical benefits of a full-frame digital SLR priced just above the entry-level DSLR models. Sports photographers and water shooters can shoot continuously at 4.5 per second (fps) – comparable to the frame rates found in the typical starter kits. The 11-point autofocus system gives action sports photographers the ability to track moving subjects like surfers and have a better chance at catching the shot. The 63-zone metering system helps ensure a balanced exposure, and the ISO can be pushed to 25,600 for low-light shooting. The 6D also features built-in GPS capability to geotag photos, as well as Wi-Fi connectivity.
Videographers appreciate the Canon 6D’s ability to shoot 1080p video at 30 frames per second (fps). With used and refurbished models of this camera selling for as low as $1,000, the Canon 6D is a strong option for water photographers looking for an entry-level full-frame DSLR for shooting on land and in the water.
20.2 Megapixel and Full-Frame CMOS sensor
The Canon 6D features a newly developed full frame 20.2-megapixel sensors resulting in higher resolution and perfectly detailed images. Delivering incredible speed and top-notch performance, the SLR features a 35.8mm by 23.9mm sensor, capable of capturing images of 5472 x 3648 pixels. The captured images feature fantastic detail and a superb signal to noise ratio, which results in high quality images right from the start.
Without conversion factor, the sensors of Canon 6D ensure that the lenses mounted on the camera delivers similar angle of view as that of a traditional 35 mm camera. Working along with the 6D’s DIGIC 5+ Processor, the sensor contains new photodiode structure capable of delivering ISO sensitivities between 100 and 25600. Moreover, the camera is capable of shooting up to 4.5 frames per second. Wrapped up in a lightweight and compact body, taking great photos using a full frame camera has never been so easy with the Canon EOS 6D.
14-Bit A/D Conversions and Wide Range ISO Setting
Canon 6D offers a 14-bit AD signal processing that results in an outstanding image gradation. The camera delivers exceptionally standard and expanded ISOs, as well as a score of new options in order to enhance the shooting experience, even in a fast-changing and varied lighting conditions. The 6D features a typical ISO range of 100-25600, but having an enhanced signal to noise ratio of the sensor and a powerful noise reduction, it’s well capable of shooting at expanded sensitivities.
Beyond the advantages of having a wide ISO range, the Canon 6D also features an automatic settings for its ISO. This can be found on its dedicated ISO menu. The maximum and minimum ISO settings can be possibly specified, including a user-defined range and a full automatic and manual.
DIGIC 5+ Image Processor
To achieve a whole new level of performance, Canon 6D makes use of the DIGIC 5+ Image Processor. Along with its two 4-channel AD converter front end processing, it is capable of delivering speeds of up to 4.5 fps. The DIGIC 5+ Image Processor also helps in improving the performance of data processing. It features new algorithms promoting a much better noise reduction at higher ISOs. Aside from the standard image processing functionalities, the DIGIC 5+ Image Processor provides real time compensation in both motion and still images. Given the power of this processor, the improvements of speed are highly noticeable from the moment you turn the camera on. Moreover, the stunning image results can speak for themselves.
The Canon 6D DSLR is an ideal tool for photographers who are looking to unlock their creative vision. With its 20.2-megapixel resolution and a full frame CMOS sensor, capturing incredible images is possible even under low light. In addition, its DIGIC 5+ Image Processor has resulted to an exceptional processing speed and a fully enhanced noise reduction. The SLR’s body is lightweight and compact, thus, it is perfect for nature and travel photographers.
Canon 6D Mark II
Continuing the momentum of the original 6D, Canon launched the 6D Mark II in June 2017. The upgraded edition of the popular EOS DSLR line features a boost in performance for action sports photographers, with a higher continuous frame rate, improved sensor resolution, and a faster autofocus system.
CMOS Sensor + DIGIC 7 Image Processor
The release of the Canon 6D Mark II comes with a boost in low-light performance and resolution. It is built around a 26.2 Full-frame CMOS sensor that compliments its newly developed DIGIC 7 Image Processor, which results in vivid imagery, and sharp videos.
The all-cross type AF system of the 6D Mark II offers 45 phase-detect points, which allows advanced tracking and focusing of moving subjects while using its optical finder for stills. These features make this device an ideal machine for both amateur and professional sports and action photographers.
The advanced AF system of this model is capable of operating in lighting condition that is as low as -3 EV. It can seamlessly work with different lenses that have an aperture of f/8 and smaller.
To optimize its performance to your subject matter, there are 5 different AF modes that are available. The CMOS AF that’s Dual Pixel can be used on the actual image sensor while using the Live View and recording videos.
Working closely with its ISO range is the 6D Mark II’s 7560-pixel RGB+IR metering sensor. Through this technology, users can capture videos and stills with the right exposure.
It is also capable of minimizing the impact of flickering lights on your output while ensuring accurate reading of the overall scene.
The Canon 6D Mark II has an expanded ISO range of 100-40,000 enables low light shooting for both photo and video. This can be further expanded to ISO 50-102400 as preferred by its user.
This incredible performance is complemented by its 6.5 fps shooting rates.
The 6D Mark II is ideal for multimedia creation as it comes equipped with Full HD video recording options. Canon has significantly increased its frame rate to 60 fps with 1080p Full HD.
To minimize camera shake the 6D Mark II has the Digital IS with a 5-axis image stabilization system. This results in sharper output even when doing handheld shooting. For more effective overall stabilization users can make use of lenses that have optical IS.
The unit comes with a built-in microphone and can accommodate an optional external microphone via its 3.5mm input.
3.0” LCD Monitor
The camera has a large 3.0” LCD monitor that has a touchscreen interface. It is has anti-smudge feature and anti-glare properties allowing users to playback and live view their shots regardless of light conditions. This screen can also serve as the camera’s touch-to-focus control and in accessing the different menus of the unit.
The vari-angle, touch-screen LCD enables easy viewing and photocomposition from otherwise difficult or impossible positions.
Users of this model are given several connectivity options. The Canon 6D Mark II has an integrated GPS system can geo-tag photos and is equipped with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi capabilities to allow the easy transfer of photos between devices.
It can be connected to a smart device to provide remote control and to make sharing of content easier. As with other Canon cameras, this unit is also supported by the CS100 Connect Station.
There is also a single SF card on the body of the camera to save videos and photos.
The compact design of this powerful DSLR means it’s easy to travel with and also easy to handle in the water with a housing. It is also ideal for working in harsh environments as its body is dust and weather-sealed.
Built-in Interval meter
The creation of vivid and crisp time-lapse imagery is a breeze because of its built-in interval meter. Depending on the preference of the photographer the camera can be set to capture and record consecutive frames of up to 99 consecutive frames between 1 second to roughly 100 hours.
The functionalities and the revamped features of the Canon 6D Mark II plus its reasonable price range makes it an ideal gadget for professional and amateur shutterbugs.
